Guide To Literacy Resources

The Guide comprises a comprehensive and up to date selection of resources (books, software, games, reading schemes etc) to support the acquisition of literacy in the classroom. Many of the resources have been selected because they have the potential to support teachers in their responsibility to ‘enthuse their pupils with the joy of reading and to fire their imaginations ‘ (Steve Sinnott, General secretary NUT in his foreword to this year’s Guide). There are many, many wonderful resources listed here and if any of them whet your appetite you can contact the publishers direct to either order simply find out more.

As Ray Barker, BESA Director said in his introduction to this year’s Guide, ‘ We should celebrate the fact that although we have a curriculum to follow in the UK, there is no prescription in the teaching method or the resources teachers choose to achieve their aims. This Guide helps to celebrate just this message of choice and diversity – and the fact that teachers are professionals who know best what works for their children in particular classroom situations…and that learning with good resources can be fun! This is the true meaning of personalised learning.’ Enjoy your search for what will work for you and your pupils.
